National Lighthouse Day 2011

Open House and National Lighthouse Day Welcomes 392 Visitors

August 6 and 7, 2011

PLLPS worked with our southern Maryland Lighthouse Partners (Piney Point, Blackistone, Drum Point and Cove Point) to pool our resources for the first annual celebration of National Lighthouse Day. This year was the 222nd anniversary of the signing of the 9th act of the first Congress, which created a National Lighthouse system. We welcomed 236 visitors for National Lighthouse Day and look forward to having the event again next year. We had a Scavenger Hunt and gave Lighthouse Kits for kids to take home.

Congratulations to our 3 Scavenger Hunt Winners! In the 5 and under group, Makenna Sampson had the winning entry! In the 10 and up group, we had two winners: Kaitlyn Curtis and Brianna Saylor! Thank you all for playing and learning about the lighthouse.

The answer key for the scavenger Hunt is:

1) F

2) H

3) G

4) A

5) J

6) D

7) C

8) I

9) E

10) B

The day started out cloudy, but quickly became hot and muggy once the sun appeared.
